The Sundance Channel will be premiering NICE BOMBS 3/19 @ 6:30pm EST/PST.
Benzfilm produced Usama Alshaibi’s new film NICE BOMBS that explores the notion of identity and the repercussions created by the filmmaker’s dual role as Iraqi and American. The finished work is an examination of his place in Iraq after being away for over 24 years, as well as a broad panorama of the voices, gestures and faces of Usama’s Iraqi family and friends who have had no voice under Saddam’s regime for the last 30 years. It is a discovery for both the filmmaker and for those who have only now begun to experiment with their freedom of speech and expression.
It pulls off the rare feat of being 'important' without forcing a political agenda down the audience's throat. — TimeOut Chicago
Among the many Iraq docs I've seen over the last few years, Usama Alshaibi's ‘Nice Bombs’ offers a refreshing new perspective… Westerners will likely sympathize with Alshaibi and his family in a much deeper way. Because, after all, he is one of us, too. — indieWIRE
